Heavy Rains Trigger Deadly Collapse at Mumbai Construction Site

A tragic incident unfolded in Mumbai’s Andheri East on Monday, June 16, 2025, when loose soil at an under-construction site collapsed due to heavy rainfall, killing one labourer and injuring three others. According to the sources, two workers were trapped around 11:45 p.m. when the soil gave way. Rescue teams managed to free them, but one was pronounced dead upon arrival at Cooper Hospital, as confirmed by an assistant medical officer.

In a separate incident, a house in Bandra East’s Indira Krupa Housing Society collapsed at approximately 11:34 p.m. the same night. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that two women sustained injuries when a wall from an adjacent under-construction building fell onto a room in the chawl. Heavy rains, which caused widespread disruption across Mumbai, were cited as the primary cause of both collapses.

The downpour also led to significant infrastructure damage, with vehicles stranded on a caved-in pavement in Navi Mumbai. Emergency response teams, including fire brigades and police, were deployed to manage the crises. Rescue operations continued at the Andheri East site to ensure no additional workers were trapped.
