Ahmedabad: The mortal remains of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani were handed over to his family today at 11:30 AM at the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. His wife Anjaliben, son Rushabh, and daughter Radhika received his body and paid an emotional farewell. The family has now left for Rajkot, where his final rites will be performed.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Health Minister Rushikesh Patel, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, and several senior political leaders were present to offer their condolences. Hundreds of BJP workers also gathered at Ahmedabad Airport to pay their respects as Rupani’s body was transported. The Gujarat government has announced a one-day state mourning in Rupani’s honour.
In Rajkot, preparations for his final procession and cremation are in full swing. A flower-adorned hearse, featuring blooms from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and other states, has been arranged for the funeral. The Shri Pujit Rupani Memorial Trust, an organization founded by the late leader, is also organizing a tribute.
In a heartfelt gesture, Rajkot-based mehndi artist Vibhuti Vekariya created a special tribute by designing an intricate portrait of Vijay Rupani and an aircraft on the hand of staff member Hiralben Ujadiya. It took her an hour to complete the artwork, which she offered as a symbolic farewell.

Large crowds, including local BJP leaders, gathered at Greenland Chowk in Rajkot to pay their final respects. Rajkot Police conducted rehearsals for the Guard of Honour that will accompany the funeral.
Vijay Rupani will be cremated with full state honours at 5 PM today in Rajkot.
