Carlos Alcaraz Triumphs Again: Wins French Open 2025 in Epic Final
Defeated world number one Sinner in a grueling five-hour, 29-minute clash

Paris: Spain’s world number two and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz emerged victorious in a historic French Open final on Sunday, defeating Italy’s world number one Jannik Sinner in what turned out to be the longest final in the tournament’s history, lasting an exhausting five hours and 29 minutes.
Alcaraz retained his title by beating Sinner in a five-set thriller:
4-6, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-2) — making it his second consecutive French Open title and fifth Grand Slam overall.
This match marked the first-ever French Open final to exceed five hours, showcasing both players’ resilience and elite skill. Sinner, who was eyeing his maiden Roland Garros crown, fell short despite leading by two sets initially. The match saw four of the five sets decided via tie-breaks.
Jannik Sinner, 23, who has already won two Australian Open titles and one US Open, was hoping to complete his set on clay with a first Roland Garros title. However, his dream remains unfulfilled. Notably, his streak of 31 consecutive Grand Slam set wins also ended in this match. He is yet to claim a Wimbledon title, an opportunity that awaits him when the grass-court major begins on June 30.
Alcaraz, 22, had won the French Open for the first time in 2024 and successfully defended his crown this year, coming back from two sets down for the first time in his career to win a Grand Slam final.
A protégé of Rafael Nadal, the king of clay, Alcaraz now boasts five Grand Slam titles:
2 French Opens
2 Wimbledons
1 US Open
This performance cements his status as the new torchbearer of Spanish tennis dominance on clay.
Women’s Final: Coco Gauff Makes History
In the women’s final held on Saturday, 21-year-old American Coco Gauff claimed her first French Open title by defeating Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus in another thrilling three-set battle:
7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-4. Gauff is the youngest woman player (since Serena Williams achieved the feat in 2002) to win US OPEN and FRENCH OPEN.
Gauff’s maiden win on the clay of Roland Garros is a significant milestone in her rising career and signals the arrival of a new champion in women’s tennis.
