OpenAI Teams Up with IndiaAI Mission to Launch Its First Academy in India – Here’s What You Need to Know

In an exciting step toward boosting India’s tech landscape, OpenAI has joined hands with the IndiaAI Mission, under the Ministry of Information Technology, to launch the OpenAI Academy its first-ever international education platform. This groundbreaking collaboration aims to supercharge AI capabilities across India, empowering students, developers educators, civil servants, and entrepreneurs with cutting-edge skills and training.

The Partnership was sealed with a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). OpenAI’s Chief Strategy Officer, Jason Kwon, is currently in Delhi as part of a broader Asia-Pacific tour, which Includes stops in Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Singapore. Kwon has been meeting with government leaders and private sector partners to explore new opportunities for collaboration and innovation.

What’s in Store?

The OpenAI Academy will roll out a dynamic mix of webinars and hand-on workshops across six Indian cities, making Al education accessible and impactful. The initiative aligns with the FutureSkills pillar of the IndiaAI Mission, aiming to democratise AI skills for a wide audience.

The Program is tailored to meet India’s unique needs, offering both digital and in-person learning options. To ensure Inclusivity, training content will be available in Hindi and English with plans to include more regional languages in the future reaching even more people across the country.

A key highlight is the integration of OpenAI’s content into the iGOT Karmayogi platform which will help train government officials in AI technologies. This move is set to strengthen the capacity of Indian’s public sector to leverage AI effectively. Startups and innovators aren’t left out either. OpenAI is offering up to $100,000 in API credits to 50 fellows or startups selected by IndiaAI Mission, giving them a head start In building AI-driven solutions.

Transforming Education with AI

The OpenAI Academy has ambitious plans to train one million teachers in the use of Generative AI technology equipping them to bring AI into classrooms and inspire the next generation. Additionally the program will host hackathons across seven states, engaging around 25,000 students in hand-on AI Innovation.
