Food Delivery Boy Dies After Bike Falls Into Open Sewer In Surat; Family Demands Justice

Surat: A 25-year-old food delivery man lost his life in a tragic accident after his bike fell into an open sewer in the Hazira area of Surat. The victim, Subhash Chhoturam, was working as a delivery agent for Swiggy and was returning home in Kawas locality late on the night of May 29 when the incident occurred.

Subhash failed to notice the uncovered drain in the dark, and his bike plunged into the sewer near the ONGC premises. He suffered fatal injuries upon impact and died on the spot. His body was discovered by local residents on the morning of May 30, who then alerted the authorities. The fire department retrieved the body, which was sent to Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

CCTV footage from the area has since emerged, clearly capturing the accident and revealing the dangerous condition of the road. The footage has intensified public anger, with residents and the victim’s family demanding strict action against the responsible civic authorities.

Subhash’s brother, Indrajsingh, expressed deep grief and frustration. “Had the sewer been covered, my brother would be alive today. The area constantly smells of chemicals being dumped into the drain, and this is not the first time such an accident has happened,” he said.

Locals allege that the open sewer has been a long-standing hazard and that previous incidents have gone unaddressed. They are demanding accountability from municipal officials and action against those allegedly responsible for discharging chemicals into the sewer.

The tragic incident has triggered protests from both the family and the local community, who are calling for urgent reforms and immediate closure of such open drains to prevent further loss of life.
