Punjab Police Nab Suspected Spy Linked to Pakistan’s ISI

Chandigarh: Punjab Police apprehended a man from Tarn Taran district on Tuesday for allegedly passing sensitive military information to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) during Operation Sindoor, according to a senior police official. The suspect, identified as Gagandeep Singh, also known as Gagan, resides in Mohalla Rodupur, Gali Nazar Singh Wali, Tarn Taran.

The arrest followed a joint operation between Tarn Taran Police and the Counter Intelligence wing, prompted by intelligence reports. Authorities recovered a mobile phone from Singh containing evidence of shared intelligence and contact details of over 20 ISI operatives. Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav revealed that Singh was also in communication with Gopal Singh Chawla, a Pakistan-based pro-Khalistan leader.

Operation Sindoor was India’s military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 civilian lives. Launched on May 7, the operation involved airstrikes targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The police operation underscores ongoing efforts to curb espionage activities amid heightened tensions following the military action.
