Mysterious Death Of Couple At Surat’s Dumas Beach Sparks Suicide Suspicions

Surat: A young couple was found in critical condition under mysterious circumstances at Dumas Beach in Surat on Friday. Despite being rushed to the Civil Hospital, both were declared dead, the woman upon arrival, and the man hours later during treatment. The incident has raised suspicions of suicide, potentially involving poison consumption.
The deceased have been identified as Bhaumik Kantibhai Dobariya, 32, and Dikshita Narendrabhai Chauhan, 24. The two were reportedly in a live-in relationship and had recently traveled to Surat from Indore, after living near the Rajasthan border.
Emergency services responded promptly after spotting the couple in distress. Dikshita was pronounced dead on arrival, while Bhaumik succumbed a few hours later, having reportedly vomited blood. The sudden nature of their deaths and the lack of external injuries have led police to suspect poisoning, possibly through a cold drink.
No mobile phones were found at the scene, but authorities recovered two SIM cards, three train tickets, and personal belongings including a charger, comb, nail polish, matches, and a partially filled Thums Up bottle from their bag. While the bottle did not emit any strong chemical odor, it has been sent for forensic testing. The results are expected to reveal whether any toxic substance was present.
Police sources revealed that Bhaumik, the son of a gem artist, had been estranged from his family for over a year. In January, he eloped with Dikshita from Surat. Although her family initially filed a missing person’s complaint, they later gave their approval for the couple’s relationship after she expressed her wish to live with Bhaumik.
Dumas Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Samples from the deceased and the Thums Up bottle have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). Authorities say the nature of the deaths, whether suicide or foul play, remains unclear at this stage.
