Tharoor Lauds India’s Strategic Strikes in US Address on Operation Sindoor

In a powerful address at the Indian Consulate in New York, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor commended India’s military response, dubbed Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Speaking as part of a multi-party parliamentary delegation, Tharoor emphasized that India’s actions were a precise and calculated retaliation following the April 22, 2025, terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which claimed 26 civilian lives.

Tharoor, a prominent opposition leader, clarified his stance, stating, “I don’t work for the government, as you know. I work for an opposition party.” He revealed that he had previously advocated for a robust yet strategic response in an op-ed, asserting that India needed to “hit hard but hit smart.” According to Tharoor, the operation, launched on May 7, 2025, successfully targeted nine specific terrorist strongholds, including headquarters and launchpads, with precision strikes.

Leading the delegation to the United States, Guyana, Panama, Brazil, and Colombia, Tharoor condemned the Pahalgam attack as a deliberate attempt to destabilize normalcy and incite communal tensions in India. He stressed that Pakistan’s persistent support for terrorism, driven by its territorial ambitions, is unacceptable. “Pakistan covets territory India controls, and they are willing to use terrorism to achieve their goals,” he remarked, urging global unity in combating terrorism.

Tharoor also criticized Pakistan’s denial of its role in fostering terrorism, noting that, with China’s support, Pakistan managed to remove references to the Pakistan-based terror group TRF from a UN Security Council press statement. He emphasized that India’s response was not aimed at escalating conflict but at firmly countering terrorism. The delegation’s visit, part of a broader diplomatic outreach to 32 countries, aims to reinforce India’s zero-tolerance stance on cross-border terrorism, as reported by India Today and other sources.

The all-party delegation, which includes MPs such as Shambhavi Chaudhary (Lok Janshakti Party), Sarfaraz Ahmed (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), G M Harish Balayagi (Telugu Desam Party), Shashank Mani Tripathi, Tejaswi Surya, Bhubaneswar K Lata (all from BJP), Mallikarjun Devda (Shiv Sena), and former Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu, reflects India’s unified front against terrorism.
