Punjab: The Indian Army on Wednesday executed a high-risk rescue in flood-hit Gurdaspur, evacuating people stranded by rapidly rising waters.
Footage from the operation shows Army helicopters hovering low over a tiny patch of land isolated by floodwaters, airlifting the marooned to safety, with nothing but water visible around them.
The Army said on X that three Cheetah helicopters from Army Aviation flew multiple sorties in extreme conditions to evacuate 27 stranded individuals from Lassian, Gurdaspur.

A day earlier, the Indian Army helped avert a major tragedy by evacuating 25 people who had taken shelter inside a building just hours before it collapsed and was swept away by the floods, Livemint reported.
Punjab Floods
Punjab has been battling severe flooding after days of relentless rain, with many comparing the situation to the 1988 deluge. Swollen Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers have inundated large tracts of farmland and villages along their banks.
The worst-affected villages are in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur and Amritsar districts.
Earlier, the NDRF and BSF rescued 381 students and 70 teachers from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Daburi, Gurdaspur, where flooding had marooned the campus and surrounding areas.
On Thursday, the Amritsar district administration, with Army support, evacuated several people including children and the elderly from swamped villages in the Ramdas area.
