NEET-UG Paper Leak Mastermind Sanjeev Mukhiya Arrested After 11 Months on the Run

Sanjeev Mukhiya, the alleged mastermind behind the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak, was apprehended by Bihar’s Economic Offences Unit (EOU) in Patna during a joint operation with local police early Friday, April 25, 2025. Mukhiya, who had been evading arrest for nearly a year, is also linked to several past paper leak incidents in Bihar.

According to officials, after verifying intelligence, EOU informed Mr. Khan, who coordinated with Patna’s Senior Superintendent of Police to instruct the Danapur Police Station to support the operation. Acting on this, EOU’s Special Operations Team, alongside Danapur police, raided an apartment in the area late on April 24, leading to Mukhiya’s arrest.

The accused, also known as Sanjeev Kumar, is implicated in multiple cases registered at the Economic Offences Police Station, including Case Nos. 27/2024, 16/2023, and 06/2024. He has previously been charge-sheeted in two earlier cases—12/12 and 30/13—linked to exam leaks.

Mr. Khan confirmed that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is already probing the NEET-UG paper leak, is also involved in the ongoing interrogation. EOU intends to seek a five-day custody for further questioning before handing Mukhiya over to the CBI.

A proposal is being sent to the Bihar government recommending commendations for the officers who carried out the successful raid.

The NEET-UG exam, conducted on May 5, 2024, was marred by allegations of a major paper leak. On November 22, 2024, the CBI filed its fifth chargesheet in the case, naming five individuals. With Mukhiya’s arrest, the total number of people apprehended by the CBI stands at 45. A Civil Court had earlier issued a warrant for Mukhiya’s arrest on January 27, 2025.

As per an earlier report in The Hindu, an EOU official had disclosed that Mukhiya allegedly obtained the leaked NEET-UG question paper and answer sheet from an unidentified professor via mobile.
