Tight Security in Jahangirpuri Ahead of Hanuman Jayanti Shobha Yatra

Security measures have been intensified in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area ahead of a Hanuman Jayanti ‘Shobha Yatra’ scheduled for Saturday, according to a police statement.

Bhisham Singh, DCP (North West), confirmed that authorities have granted approval for the religious procession in the locality, which was the site of communal violence during the same event in April 2022. That incident resulted in injuries to eight police personnel and one civilian.

“To ensure peace and public safety, a significant police presence will be maintained throughout the area,” Singh added.

The development comes days after the Delhi High Court instructed the police to make a timely decision regarding the yatra. The directive followed a petition challenging the denial of permission for this year’s event, citing the 2022 clashes. On April 9, Justice Sachin Datta stated that the previous unrest should not automatically prevent such events from being held, emphasizing the police’s responsibility to implement proper security arrangements.
