Drunk PSI Crashes Into Three Vehicles In Vadodara, Suspended After Public Outrage

Vadodara: A police officer’s reckless behavior under the influence of alcohol led to an accident near Chhani Bridge late Saturday night, sparking outrage among local residents and resulting in his suspension. The officer, identified as PSI V.H. Padhiar, was reportedly driving a black Brezza SUV when he rammed into a car followed by two scooters in quick succession.
The impact left two women, both police constables, injured and in need of medical attention. A third victim escaped serious harm. As bystanders rushed to intervene, they were stunned to discover the driver was not an ordinary citizen but a uniformed police sub-inspector. Witnesses claim Padhiar was heavily intoxicated, aggressive, and uncooperative. He allegedly slapped a young man who tried to question him, arrogantly telling the crowd, “Do whatever you want.”
A search of the vehicle revealed two bottles of imported liquor, confirming suspicions of drunk driving. Further investigation showed that Padhiar is currently posted with the traffic department in Rajpipla and was on personal leave, reportedly en route to his hometown in Botad at the time of the crash.
Among the damaged vehicles was one belonging to an Additional GST Commissioner, adding further gravity to the incident. The Chhani police have since registered a case, citing charges of drunk driving, public endangerment, and illegal possession of alcohol. Zone-1 Deputy Commissioner of Police Zuli Kothiya confirmed that legal action is underway and that Padhiar’s superiors have been notified.
Padhiar’s suspension was announced within hours of the incident, but the damage to public trust may take longer to repair. Many citizens have voiced anger over the fact that someone tasked with upholding the law was so brazenly breaking it. The episode has reignited concerns over police accountability and the need for stricter enforcement within the force.
