They want to create ‘Hindia,’ says Kamal Haasan on delimitation row

Amid the delimitation and language controversy, actor Kamal Haasan has hit out at the Center. The actor has accused the southern states of the country, including Tamil Nadu, of allegedly imposing Hindi language and promoting the interests of the Hindi belt through delimitation. Haasan has used the word HINDIA for it. Kamal Haasan hit out at the Center and said, ‘They are trying to create HINDIA.’ Popular Hindi film actor Kamal Haasan also made a statement on the proposed delimitation in the year 2026 and said, ‘Any such decision will not be in the interest of non-Hindi speaking states.’
Let us tell you that today, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has called an all-party meeting of Tamil Nadu political parties on the issue of delimitation. Kamal Haasan, the leader of Tamil Nadu’s political party Makkal Needhi Maiam, has also arrived to participate in this meeting. Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan has strongly criticised the Centre’s attempts to delimit parliamentary constituencies, warning that it could damage India’s federal structure and diversity. Speaking at an all-party meeting on the issue, Haasan criticised the Centre and said that it was being made into HINDIA, putting India’s inclusive vision at risk.
Kamal Haasan said, ‘The issue of delimitation of parliamentary constituencies based on population is not only a matter of concern for Tamil Nadu, it also affects Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Odisha, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and the north-eastern states.’ He acknowledged the wider implications of the move and thanked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin for organising the meeting. Haasan also praised the parties from Tamil Nadu who put aside their ideological differences and participated in the discussion. “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin for organising this all-party meeting with this awareness,” he said.
Kamal Haasan reiterated his clear stance on the matter. He said that states that contribute to national development by controlling population growth should not be penalized. He spoke in detail on the basic principles of democracy and federalism. Haasan said, “In this discussion, we should focus on two main principles, democracy and federalism. These are the two eyes and only by giving importance to both can we realize the dream of an inclusive and developed India.”
Actor Kamal Haasan also said, ‘We envision an inclusive India, but they want to create ‘HINDIA’. Why try to connect something that is not broken? There is no need to disrupt a functioning democracy over and over again. Even if constituencies are redrawn, the biggest impact will always be on non-Hindi speaking states.’
He said, ‘This step weakens federalism and is completely unnecessary. Maintaining the number of parliamentary representatives, not just today or tomorrow, but at all times, is important for maintaining democracy, federalism and the diversity of India. As an Indian, I emphasize this.’
