New Delhi: Justice Yashwant Varma, a judge of the Allahabad High Court who found himself at the heart of a controversy involving the discovery of a large amount of cash at his official residence in Delhi, has submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu.
The resignation comes as an impeachment process was underway to remove him from office following the recovery of a significant stash of burnt currency notes from his government bungalow in March 2025.
In his letter to the President, Justice Varma stated: “While I do not propose to burden your august office with the reasons which have constrained me to submit this missive, it is with deep anguish that I hereby tender my resignation from the office of Judge of Hon’ble High Court of Judicature at Allahabad, with immediate effect.”
The development, which noted that the move effectively halts the impeachment proceedings that had gained momentum after the cash incident came to light while Justice Varma was serving at the Delhi High Court before his transfer back to Allahabad.
