Will You Get Your Food Or Product Parcels At Your Home On December 31 ? Delivery Workers Going On Strike Same Day; Read Concerns

New Delhi : Delivery workers linked to major food delivery and online shopping platforms such as Amazon, Zomato, Swiggy, Zepto, Blinkit and Flipkart have announced a nationwide strike on December 31, 2025 for fulling their demand. It is to be noted that delivery workers also did strike on Christmas Day, December 25 for the same kind of demands.

Some of union leaders claim that despite the growing demand for fast deliveries, workers are not seeing fair pay or stable working conditions. One of the key concerns raised by the unions is the growing control of algorithms. As per workers, app-based systems decide their pay, delivery targets and incentives with little transparency.

Incentive rules are changed frequently, making incomes uncertain and unpredictable. In a statement, the unions said delivery workers play an important role, especially during festivals, weekends and peak hours. However, many are now struggling with falling earnings, long work hours and unsafe delivery deadlines.

Other issues highlighted include sudden blocking of work IDs without proper explanation, payment failures and lack of clarity on routes assigned by the apps. Workers say there is no effective system to resolve complaints quickly. The workers are demanding basic social security benefits, which most gig workers currently lack. These include fixed rest breaks, health insurance, accident cover and pension benefits.

Unions have also asked platform companies to put in place stronger grievance redressal systems within the apps so that issues related to pay, routes and penalties can be addressed fairly. Another major demand is an end to ultra-fast delivery models, such as 10-minute deliveries. Workers say these targets encourage risky behaviour on roads and put their safety at serious risk.
