Why National Science Day is celebrated on 28th February ? Know the reason!

In the year 1986, the National Council for Science & Technology Communication (NCSTC) had asked the Government of India to designate February 28th as a National Science Day. Hence the 28th February is celebrated as National Science Day. Many schools, colleges, universities and other academic, scientific, technical , medical and research institutions celebrate this day.
National Science day is celebrated in India on February 28th every year to objectify the discovery of the Raman effect by Indian Physicist Sir C.V. Raman on 28 February 1928.
Reasoning behind the National Science Day :
National Science day is mainly celebrated to spread the message across the country on the importance of science and technology being used in displaying all the activities , efforts and achievements in the field of science for the betterment of the human welfare. It focuses on the discussion of all the issues and the implementation of the new technologies for the development in the field.

In the year 1928, Dr. C.V.Raman disclosed one of the most transformative discoveries in the field of modern physics which is the ” Raman Effect”. The Raman effect is a phenomenon in light scattering that occurs when light comes in an interaction with molecules causing a shift in the energy (and thus the wavelength) of the scattered light. This major achievement of the discovery not only overthrowal of the spectroscopic analysis but also secured Dr. Raman the prestigious Nobel prize in Physics in the year 1930, marking him as the first Asian recipient in the discipline. The Raman effect has evolved into a cornerstone of scientific inquiry, influencing a multitude of fields.
Therefore, 28th February is considered as the National Science Day.
