US Influencer Mocks Indian-Origin Man Who Died In Canada Hospital

New Delhi : A US influencer and attorney received backlash and heavy criticism for his insensitive comment on the death of an Indian man in Canada. Shared in a post on X by Andrew Branca, the attorney referred to the deceased as “another Indian invader of Canada” and went on to mock both Canadian and Indian healthcare systems, suggesting that the man and his wife should have stayed back in Mumbai instead of seeking a life in Canada.

The post surfaced amid reports of the death of an Indian man living in Canada, whose death led to discussions about immigrant experiences, access to healthcare, and systemic challenges faced by newcomers. Prashant Sreekumar, originally from India, had reportedly been residing in Canada with his wife when he fell critically ill. According to shared accounts, delays in receiving timely medical attention and complications during treatment contributed to his death, intensifying scrutiny of Canada’s strained healthcare infrastructure and the difficulties immigrants often faced while navigating it.

His death prompted an outpouring of grief online, with users using the incident to emphasise gaps in healthcare access in the country. Branca’s post, however, was seen by most users as exploiting a tragic loss to push an anti-immigrant narrative. Social media users accused him of lacking basic empathy and reducing human life to a political talking point. One user wrote, “A man has died and all you can think of is hate and dance on his grave. You’re a despicable, disgusting excuse of a man.”

The MAGA influencer, who hosts ‘The Andrew Branca Show’, has repeatedly spread hateful content against India and Indians on his X account, which has more than 50,000 posts as of the last update. In the past, he has called Indians “retards” and “third-world”, while also describing Indian food as “disgusting”. He defends his remarks by saying “America is for Americans”. In a reply to a user on X, Branca wrote, “You, an Indian national, fled the shit hole of third-world India to live in first-world Canada.
