New Delhi : Around 2.89 crore voter names have been deleted from Uttar Pradesh’s draft electoral roll, following a large-scale verification exercise that reduced the state’s electorate from nearly 15 crore to about 12 crore voters, the state’s Chief Election Officer (CEO) said. The Uttar Pradesh’s CEO said that of the more than 15 crore voters in the old rolls, around 12 crore returned verification forms after signing them themselves or through a family member.
Political parties cooperated in the exercise, and booth-level officers (BLOs) completed the fieldwork, officials said. With the publication of the draft electoral roll on Monday, the Election Commission has opened the window for claims and objections until February 6. From January 6, the notice period will also begin for voters whose mapping was not completed. Only voters for whom signed forms were received have been treated as validly mapped.
Voters have been asked to remember February 6 as the deadline for filing claims and objections. The final electoral roll will be published on March 6. If a voter’s name appears in the list, there is no need to fill Form 6. If the name does not appear, Form 6 must be submitted. Form 6 is available on the Election Commission’s website. Voters who have shifted residence but contacted the BLO were able to update their details through Form 8. Voters can also check their names on their phones through ECI.net. All voters who have turned 18 have been urged to verify their names in the electoral roll, fill Form 6 if their name is missing, and use Form 8 for any corrections.
Visit the Election Commission website at voters.eci.gov.in and go to the electoral roll download section. Select your state and district, then choose your Assembly constituency. Select your polling booth and download the draft voter list. The SIR process in Uttar Pradesh began on November 4. At the start of the revision, the state had around 15.44 crore registered voters. After completion of the first phase of SIR, the number has come down to 12.55 crore. During this period, the SIR timeline in the state was extended twice—first by seven days and then by 15 days.
