Indian Army Neutralizes Two Militants in Baramulla Clash Following Pahalgam Tragedy

The Indian Army eliminated two militants in a fierce encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday, thwarting an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC). The operation, which took place in the Uri sector, occurred just a day after a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists.
According to a statement from the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps, posted on X, the clash began when alert troops detected two to three unidentified militants attempting to cross into Indian territory through the Sarjeevan area near Uri Nala. The soldiers challenged the intruders, leading to an intense firefight. “Two terrorists have been eliminated, infiltration bid foiled by the security forces in the ongoing Operation,” the Chinar Corps reported, adding that the operation was still in progress.
The encounter yielded a significant haul of weapons, ammunition, and other military supplies, underscoring the militants’ intent, the Army noted. The operation, dubbed “Op Tikka,” highlighted the vigilance of troops stationed along the LoC, a region prone to infiltration attempts.
This incident follows a devastating attack on Tuesday in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow, where terrorists opened fire on tourists, killing 26 people and injuring several others. The Pahalgam assault was the deadliest in the Kashmir Valley since the 2019 Pulwama attack. In response, security forces have intensified search operations to track down those responsible, while locals in Baramulla, Srinagar, Poonch, and Kupwara held candlelight vigils to mourn the victims.
The back-to-back incidents have heightened tensions in the region, with security forces on high alert. The Indian Army’s swift action in Baramulla demonstrates its ongoing efforts to curb militancy and secure the volatile border area.
