Tragedy In Mathura: Several Feared Trapped As 6 Houses Collapse, Rescue Operations Underway

Mathura: A devastating incident struck Mathura on Saturday afternoon when six houses collapsed suddenly and around a dozen feared trapped under the rubble. As per the primary report, three are feared to be dead. The collapse occurred in the Masani area under Govindnagar police station limits, sending shockwaves through the local community.

The affected homes were built on a mud hill, which gave way unexpectedly around noon. According to eyewitnesses, the ground beneath the homes suddenly began to crumble, causing one house after another to come crashing down in a matter of seconds. Many said the destruction was so intense, it felt like an earthquake had hit. Residents had no time to react, and most were still inside their homes when disaster struck.

CO City, Bhushan Verma said, “We received the information that under the Masani Police Station area, a building has collapsed. The debris is being cleared currently. A team of Municipal Corporation is present at the spot with JCB…We are investigating how many people are stuck in the debris.”

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have joined local fire and emergency teams in a massive rescue operation. Excavation machines are working around the clock to clear debris and locate survivors, while anxious family members wait nearby, hoping for news of their loved ones.

Initial reports suggest that unauthorized excavation using JCB machines was taking place near the hilly area, weakening the foundation of the houses above. A local resident, Sachin, whose brother was among those trapped, said, “Earth was being dug out below the hill where 4-5 houses stood. As soon as the digging started, the houses collapsed. We pulled my brother out, but he didn’t survive the trip to the hospital.”

As the rescue continues, the exact number of people still buried beneath the rubble remains unknown. Officials are speaking with the families of the affected homes to gather details about those who may be missing. The situation remains tense as rescuers race against time to save lives.

This tragic incident has once again raised serious questions about unregulated construction and excavation work in vulnerable areas. An investigation into the cause of the collapse and any potential negligence is expected once rescue operations are complete.\
