Several nearby tourist boats also rushed to the spot after noticing the capsized vessel and joined the rescue operation. One of the rescuers told Vietnamese news outlet VnExpress International that his boat reached the accident site within five minutes. However, the operation was challenging as several passengers were trapped inside the overturned boat.
“Only a few people were brought out conscious,” the boat operator was quoted as saying. According to the report, sea conditions near An Thoi were rough at the time of the accident. Although it was not raining, tourist boats were operating in the area when the vessel capsized.
