Telangana Student Found Dead with Bullet Wounds in US, Family Awaits Clarity

A 26-year-old student from Telangana, G Praveen, was found dead with bullet wounds in the United States, though the exact circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, his family has said.

Praveen, who was pursuing a Master’s degree in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was discovered by his friends, who then informed his family. US authorities notified them of his death on Wednesday morning (Indian time), according to a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI).

His cousin, Arun, confirmed that Praveen’s body bore bullet wounds but said the family has not yet received official details on the cause of death.

“Some reports suggest he was shot by unidentified assailants at a store, but we have no confirmation yet,” Arun told PTI.

He also mentioned that Praveen had tried calling his father in the early hours of Wednesday, but the call went unanswered as his father was asleep. The news has left Praveen’s parents in deep shock.

The family, originally from Ranga Reddy district near Hyderabad, is now awaiting further information. US authorities have assured them that the exact cause of death will be determined following an autopsy.

Who is G Praveen?

Praveen, who completed his B Tech in Hyderabad, went to the US in 2023 to pursue his MS. He had visited India in December 2024 and returned to the US in January this year. The family has reached out to MLAs and other leaders for assistance.

At least two other Indian students from Telangana one from Khammam in November last year and another from Hyderabad in January this year were reportedly shot dead in the US.
