26/11 Accused Tahawwur Rana’s Extradition Plea Is Likely To Be Reviewed By US Supreme Court

The US Supreme Court is likely to consider an application by 26/11 Mumbai terror accused Tahawwur Rana seeking a stay on his extradition to India. Tahawwur Rana, 63, is currently held in a Los Angeles prison.

A copy of the application has been shared with the judges, allowing them to review the plea and related documents before the conference. For an application to proceed, at least four judges must agree to grant a review. Decisions on the applications are announced in open court, usually on the court’s next working day.

The US Supreme Court dismissed a review petition submitted by Rana. Last month, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States, President Donald Trump stated that his administration had approved Rana’s extradition, describing him as “very evil man”.

In 2011, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a charge sheet against Rana and eight others for their involvement in planning and carrying out the Mumbai attacks.
