Stopped India-Pak Nuclear War, Told Them ‘Gonna Do a Lot of Trade With You’: Donald Trump

In a press briefing on Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that his administration was instrumental in brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, crediting the effort with helping to avert a potential nuclear conflict.
Trump said he used trade as a diplomatic tool, telling both nations, “We’re going to do a lot of trade with you,” urging them to de-escalate tensions. He described the intervention as a key factor in halting what he believed could have become a devastating war.
“On Saturday, my administration helped broker a full and immediate ceasefire—I think a permanent one—between India and Pakistan, ending a dangerous conflict between two nuclear-armed countries,” Trump said during the conference.
He emphasized the potential severity of the situation, stating, “We stopped a nuclear conflict. I think it could have been a bad nuclear war. Millions of people could have been killed, so I’m very proud about that.”
Trump also commended the leadership in both New Delhi and Islamabad, highlighting their resolve and insight. “The leadership of India and Pakistan was unwavering and powerful. They had the strength, wisdom, and fortitude to fully understand the gravity of the situation,” he said.
He further mentioned ongoing trade talks, adding, “We’re going to do a lot of trade with both Pak and India. We’re negotiating with India right now. We’ll soon be negotiating with Pak.”
The comments shed light on the administration’s strategy of leveraging economic engagement as a tool for international peacebuilding.
