New Delhi : The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued summons in the defamation suit filed by former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officer Sameer Wankhede against streaming platform Netflix and actor Shah Rukh Khan’s production house. The lawyer representing Wankhede informed that an application has been filed to amend the suit and argued that the court has territorial jurisdiction in Delhi.
Referring to the amended plaint plea, he said, In reference to the series, there are posts trolling me, my wife, and my sister. It’s shocking. The defendants are surely not defending those posts.
The interim injunction application in the case is scheduled for hearing on October 30. While hearing the case on September 26, the High Court directed Wankhede to amend his defamation plea, saying that it was “not maintainable in Delhi”.
In his suit, Wankhede has alleged the Netflix series has maligned his reputation. He has also sought Rs 2 crore in damages, which would be donated to the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital for cancer patients. Wankhede’s plea also raises objections to a particular scene in which a character is shown raising the middle finger immediately after uttering the national slogan “Satyamev Jayate”.
