Robert Duvall Dies At 95, Celebrated For The Godfather And Tender Mercies

California : Veteran actor Robert Duvall, whose distinguished career spanned more than six decades and included iconic roles in The Godfather, Apocalypse Now and Tender Mercies, has died at the age of 95, his wife Luciana Duvall confirmed on Monday. Duvall passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, surrounded by family, according to the statement.

Duvall’s remarkable body of work earned him wide acclaim in both lead and supporting roles. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1983 for his nuanced portrayal of a struggling country musician in Tender Mercies and received multiple Oscar nominations over the years.

Born in 1931 in San Diego, California, Duvall emerged as one of Hollywood’s most respected performers, known for his deep commitment to character and storytelling. His portrayal of Tom Hagen, the calm and loyal consigliere in The Godfather films, remains one of cinema’s most enduring performances. In Apocalypse Now, Duvall’s role as Lieutenant Colonel William Kilgore delivered one of the war classic’s most memorable lines and helped solidify his reputation as a versatile actor.
