PM’s Push For ‘Criminal Netas’ Bill In Bihar, Took Sharp Dig At RJD Invoking Its Past Rule As Lantern Era

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a visit to election-bound Bihar on Friday, took a sharp dig at the RJD, invoking its past rule as the “lantern era” and accusing it of plunging the state into darkness, lawlessness and backwardness. “If a government employee is imprisoned for 50 hours, then he loses his job automatically, be it a driver, a clerk or a peon. But a CM, a Minister, or even a PM can enjoy staying in the government even from jail… Some time ago, we saw how files were being signed from jail and how government orders were given from jail.

The Prime Minister made these remarks after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for development projects worth Rs 13,000 crore across key sectors such as power, roads, health, urban development and water supply in Gaya Ji. PM Modi’s visit to Bihar comes as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi continues his ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in the state ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. After his Bihar visit, PM Modi is scheduled to head to West Bengal after this, where he will inaugurate metro rail projects and lay the foundation stone for road infrastructure worth over Rs 5,200 crore.

PM Modi’s visit to the poll-bound state began in Gaya Ji, where he inaugurated several key development projects, including a 660 MW thermal power plant in Buxar built at a cost of Rs 6,880 crore. The Prime Minister flagged off two new train services: the Amrit Bharat Express between Gaya Ji and Delhi and the Buddhist Circuit Train connecting Vaishali in north Bihar to Koderma in Jharkhand. He also participated in a symbolic Grih Pravesh ceremony for 12,000 beneficiaries of the PM Awas Yojana (Gramin).

The Prime Minister inaugurated the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Muzaffarpur and a Rs 520 crore Sewerage Treatment Plant in Munger under the Namami Gange programme. Additionally, he also launched a set of urban infrastructure projects worth around Rs 1,260 crore. PM Modi also inaugurated a four-lane Bakhtiyarpur-Mokama section of National Highway 31, built at a cost of around Rs 1,900 crore, along with the Bikramganj-Dumraon section of National Highway 120.

The new bridge has been built alongside the ageing Rajendra Setu and is expected to cut detours of up to 100 km for heavy vehicles traveling between north and south Bihar. During the visit, PM Modi also delivered a public address in the state, which comes at a politically significant time, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ currently underway and assembly elections approaching.

The Prime Minister will launch metro rail projects and lay the foundation stone for road infrastructure worth Rs 5,200 crore in Kolkata in the late afternoon. He is expected to flag off services on newly completed metro sections and will undertake a ride from Jessore Road Metro Station to Jai Hind Bimanbandar and back. PM Modi will inaugurate three new metro corridors in Kolkata on Friday: the Green, Yellow, and Orange lines.
