New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that by inaugurating the statues of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Lucknow, his party has moved beyond crediting just one family for India’s development. PM Modi pointed out that during the Congress era, senior BJP leaders were disrespected.
Celebrating the birth anniversaries of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Madan Mohan Malaviya, PM Modi said, “December 25 is a day that also brings the remarkable coincidence of the birth anniversaries of two great luminaries of the nation. Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji and Bharat Ratna Mahamana Madan Mohan Malaviya ji – both these great men protected India’s identity, unity and pride, and left an indelible mark on nation-building,” he added.
The complex features 65-feet-high bronze statues of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, and Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, symbolising their seminal contributions to India’s political thought, nation-building, and public life. It also houses a state-of-the-art museum designed in the form of a lotus-shaped structure, spread over approximately 98,000 square feet.
Known for his sharp wit and humour, Vajpayee also often interacted with the media in his signature style, Rajnath Singh. Narrating an incident from 2006, Rajnath Singh shared an interaction between the BJP leader and some journalists shortly after Congress leader Natwar Singh resigned as external affairs minister after the UPA was rocked by the Iraq oil-for-food contract controversy.
