Deadly Pakistani Shelling Kills two Indian Security Personnel in Jammu

JAMMU: A surge in cross-border hostilities by Pakistani forces in the Jammu region has resulted in the deaths of four Indian security personnel. The intensified shelling and drone attacks, which occurred over a 24-hour period, claimed the lives of two Indian Army soldiers, an Indian Air Force (IAF) sergeant, and a Border Security Force (BSF) sub-inspector, while injuring seven others from the BSF unit.

Among the casualties was Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) from Himachal Pradesh, who succumbed to injuries Saturday morning after an artillery shell detonated near his post in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch. Rifleman Sunil Kumar, a 25-year-old member of the J&K Light Infantry, died from wounds sustained during overnight gunfire and shelling in the RS Pura sector, according to the same sources.

Sergeant Surendra Kumar Moga, a 36-year-old medical assistant with the IAF’s 36 Wing, was killed in a Pakistani strike while stationed in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. Originally posted in Bengaluru, Moga had been redeployed to Udhampur just four days prior due to rising tensions. His family in Mehradasi village, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, was notified on Saturday, and preparations for a state funeral were underway, with villagers gathering to mourn, as per local accounts.

The BSF confirmed the death of Sub-Inspector Mohammed Imtiaz, who was killed during heavy Pakistani firing on his unit along the International Border in the RS Pura sector. The BSF announced on X that Imtiaz made the “supreme sacrifice” on May 10, 2025, during the cross-border assault. A wreath-laying ceremony with full military honors was scheduled for May 11 at Frontier Headquarters Jammu, Paloura, the BSF stated.

The attacks, which included artillery shelling and drone incursions, marked a significant escalation in the region, prompting Indian forces to respond, though specific details of the retaliation were not disclosed in the reports. The violence follows a reported ceasefire agreement between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan, which Pakistan violated within hours.
