Pakistan’s ‘Speculative Firing’ Across LoC, India Retaliates

New Delhi: The Pakistani Army initiated small arms fire at multiple points along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday morning, escalating tensions following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam earlier this week, according to Indian Army officials. The Indian Army responded promptly to the provocation, with no casualties reported thus far. Details of the incident are still being verified, officials said.
The exchange of fire comes days after a terror attack on Tuesday in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir, claimed 26 lives, including a Nepali national. The attack, attributed to cross-border elements, prompted India to implement stringent measures against Pakistan. These include the expulsion of Pakistani military attaches, the suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, and the immediate closure of the Attari land-transit post.
The Pahalgam attack, one of the deadliest in recent years, targeted civilians, sparking widespread condemnation and a diplomatic standoff between the two nations. Thursday night also saw speculative firing by Pakistani troops on Indian posts along the LoC, to which the Indian Army retaliated, military sources told. The ongoing skirmishes underscore the heightened state of alert on both sides as the region grapples with the fallout of the tragedy.
