Overnight Downpour Triggers Waterlogging And Uproots Trees Across Parts Of Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram : Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds lashed several parts of Kerala overnight, causing widespread waterlogging and uprooting trees in a number of districts. The intense spell of rain disrupted normal life on Saturday morning, with flooded roads and fallen trees affecting traffic and daily activities.

Residents in low lying areas woke up to waterlogged streets, while emergency workers were deployed to clear roads blocked by uprooted trees and broken branches. In some places, vehicles faced delays as rainwater accumulated on major roads, making commuting difficult during peak morning hours.

The rainfall comes as the southwest monsoon continues to strengthen over the state. Weather officials have warned that Kerala is likely to receive more heavy rainfall in the coming days, raising concerns about flooding in vulnerable areas and the possibility of landslides in hilly regions.

Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged people living in flood prone and landslide prone areas to remain cautious. Disaster management teams are on alert, while district administrations have advised residents to follow weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rain.

Kerala, which receives some of the country’s highest monsoon rainfall, often experiences waterlogging and weather related disruptions during the early weeks of the monsoon season. With forecasts indicating continued rainfall, authorities are keeping a close watch on conditions across the state.
