‘How Can He Reach Abu Dhabi?’: Nagpur NEET Aspirant Shocked After NTA Allots Overseas Exam Centre For Re-Test

Nagpur: What should have been the final stage of preparation for the NEET-UG 2026 re-test turned into a moment of panic for a Nagpur student after he discovered that his examination centre had been allotted not in Maharashtra or anywhere in India, but in Abu Dhabi.

The unusual allotment has sparked fresh concerns over the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) handling of the re-examination process, with students and parents questioning how such an error could occur just a day before one of the country’s most important entrance tests.

The student, 18 year old Abdullah Mohammad Talib from Nagpur, was among the candidates scheduled to appear for the NEET-UG 2026 re-test on June 21. However, when he downloaded his admit card, he was stunned to find that his examination venue was listed in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

The family initially believed it was a mistake on their end and checked the details multiple times. But the admit card continued to show the overseas centre, leaving them worried about what to do next.

Adding to their frustration was the fact that Abdullah does not even have a passport. “How can my son go to Abu Dhabi overnight for an examination?” a family member was quoted as saying, expressing disbelief over the centre allocation.

With the examination just hours away, the family reportedly approached the authorities seeking immediate intervention. Following their complaint, officials are said to have assured them that the issue would be rectified and that a corrected admit card would be issued.

While the NTA has not yet publicly explained how the error occurred, the incident is widely being viewed as a technical glitch or administrative lapse in the centre allocation system.

The timing of the controversy has made it particularly sensitive. The NEET-UG 2026 re-test is already being conducted under intense scrutiny after concerns surrounding the original examination led to a fresh test for affected candidates. As a result, every development linked to the re-exam is being closely watched by students, parents and education experts.

Over the past few days, the NTA has issued fresh admit cards, released detailed exam day instructions and urged candidates to verify all information carefully before appearing for the test. The agency has also put additional arrangements in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the re-examination.

However, the Nagpur student’s case has once again highlighted the stress that even a small administrative error can cause. For lakhs of aspirants, NEET is not just another examination but a gateway to medical education and a career many have spent years preparing for. Any discrepancy in admit cards, especially at the last moment, can create unnecessary anxiety.

Interestingly, Abu Dhabi is among the officially designated international NEET examination centres for candidates who opt to take the test abroad. But such centres are typically allotted only to students who select overseas cities during the application process. This is why the appearance of an Abu Dhabi centre on the admit card of a Nagpur based candidate has raised eyebrows.

As preparations for the June 21 re-test enter the final stretch, students have been advised to thoroughly check their admit cards and immediately report any errors. For the NTA, meanwhile, the incident serves as another reminder of the importance of accuracy and coordination in conducting a national level examination that impacts the future of thousands of aspiring doctors.

For Abdullah and his family, the priority now is simple ensuring that he gets a valid examination centre in India and can focus on the test he has worked hard to prepare for, instead of worrying about an unexpected trip to another country.
