Residents of four villages in Punjab’s Amritsar district were gripped by fear after discovering missile debris on Thursday morning, following reports of loud explosions overnight. The findings come amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, triggered by India’s Operation Sindoor, a series of missile strikes targeting terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
According to SSP Maninder Singh of Amritsar Rural, the Indian Army was promptly notified and took possession of the debris for investigation. Authorities confirmed that the recovered objects were safely neutralized before any detonation could occur. A senior police official, clarified that the debris did not belong to the Indian Armed Forces, raising questions about its origin.
The discovery has intensified local anxiety, with villagers recalling the sounds of blasts that shook the area late Wednesday night. The army is conducting a thorough probe to determine the source and nature of the debris. Meanwhile, Punjab Police have canceled all leaves, ensuring heightened vigilance across the region.
The incident follows India’s military operation on Wednesday, which struck nine terror targets in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir. As diplomatic and military tensions persist, the debris discovery has added to the unease in Amritsar, a district close to the Pakistan border.
