A potential security crisis in south Delhi’s Mahipalpur area fizzled out Thursday evening after authorities determined that reports of a “blast” near the Radisson hotel were actually the loud pop of a bus tyre bursting.
Delhi Police received an emergency call shortly before dusk claiming an explosion had rocked the vicinity of the Radisson Blu hotel in Mahipalpur, a busy commercial hub near the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Bomb detection squads, anti-sabotage teams, and quick-response units were immediately dispatched to the location to secure the area and investigate.
Officers reached the caller, who described hearing a massive bang while driving toward Gurugram on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway. However, extensive searches of the reported site turned up no signs of an explosion—no debris, no damage, and no injured persons.
Local inquiries quickly clarified the confusion. A security guard posted nearby told police that the rear tyre of a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus heading toward Dhaula Kuan had suddenly burst, producing the thunderous noise that alarmed passers-by.

“Situation is normal and nothing to worry,” a senior police official stated in an official release, confirming the incident was nothing more than a routine tyre failure on a public bus.
The false alarm briefly disrupted traffic in the already congested Mahipalpur stretch, with motorists slowing down and some pulling over after hearing the sound. No injuries or property damage were reported.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant but emphasized that swift verification prevented unnecessary panic in an area frequented by travelers and airport-bound commuters.
