Leh: A mild earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck the Leh region of Ladakh in the early hours of Thursday, according to a report by Free Press Journal. The tremor was recorded at approximately 3:54 AM IST, as confirmed by the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
As reported by Free Press Journal, the epicenter of the earthquake was located in Leh. The NCS shared details of the event through an update on X, specifying the exact time, geographical coordinates, and depth of the quake. The tremor occurred at a depth of around 150 kilometres beneath the Earth’s surface, indicating seismic activity within the region.

According to the Free Press Journal, such seismic events are not uncommon in the region due to its geological characteristics. Ladakh lies in a seismically active zone, where tectonic movements frequently result in low to moderate intensity earthquakes.
The details provided by the NCS included the latitude and longitude of the epicentre, along with the depth classification, offering a comprehensive snapshot of the seismic occurrence. The agency continues to monitor such activities across the country to assess potential risks and developments.
The incident serves as a reminder of the region’s vulnerability to natural geological movements. However, as per Free Press Journal, the absence of damage or casualties ensured that the situation remained under control, with no emergency response required at the time of reporting.
