Kannada Actress Ranya Rao Caught in Gold Smuggling Case

Bangalore : Kannada film actress Ranya Rao was arrested at the Kempegowda International Airport here on the charge of smuggling gold illegally from Dubai.
The Kannada fil ctress flew into Bengaluru on Monday night through an Emirates flight. The inspection by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials revealed she had carried 14.80 kg of gold. The actress was later taken to the DRI office in HBR Layout and formally arrested.
The 33 year old actor, started her career with Kannada film Maanikya, in the year 2014. She had flown to Dubai through the Emirates flight on Monday. It is sourced as that two people accompanying her were carrying the smuggled gold in briefcases. The other two had almost cleared the security check at Kempegowda airport and they were about to exit when a DRI team, which had specific intel about the smuggling attempt, stopped the actress and started a search.
According to the sources,’ Upon examination, gold bars weighing 14.2 kg were found ingeniously concealed on erson. The contraband, valued at Rs 12.56 crore was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962″ . The actress reportedly claimed during the initial investigation that she is the daughter of Director General of police K Ramachandra Rao. The officials had received information that Ranya was actively involved, in a gold smuggling network operating from Dubai.
The actress’s frequent travels to Dubai had already drawn the attention of the authorities. The actress had travelled to Dubai four times past 15 days, the officials were waiting for her at the Bengaluru airport, as soon as she landed they detained her and conducted an inspection which confirmed their suspicious.
