Iran’s Top Cleric Issues Fatwa Declaring US President Trump And PM Benjamin Netanyahu As Enemies

New Delhi : Iranian Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi on Monday issued a religious ruling condemning threats against Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior Shia clerics. As per report, Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi issued a fatwa in Arabic declaring US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as enemies and condemning their actions in a religious decree.

It is clear that threatening the life of any person who is a pillar of the Islamic system, the Marja’iyyat (religious authority), and leadership, especially the supreme leader, is forbidden and religiously prohibited, Shirazi worte. It is obligatory to defend them and to confront the perpetrators of such threats, and violating this sanctity is one of the greatest sins, he added.

The fatwa also added that any support or cooperation by Muslims or Islamic states to these enemies will be considered “haram” or forbidden. Muslims around the world must stand firm against such enemies and their open crimes. If they carry out such an act, they will face severe and divine punishment, and they will undoubtedly be avenged, his religious ruling read.

The religious decree followed a 12-day war that erupted on June 13, when Israel launched a bombing campaign in Iran that killed top military commanders and scientists linked to its nuclear programme. Tehran responded with ballistic missile attacks on Israeli cities. Israel said it aimed to keep the Islamic republic from developing an atomic weapon — an ambition Tehran has consistently denied.
