Indian Man Shot Dead as He Attempts to Cross Into Israel from Jordan Territory

New Delhi : The man named Thomas Gabriel Perera,resident of Kerala’s Thumba, has been allegedly shot dead by Jordanian soldiers while trying to cross the border and tried to enter Israel illegally.
Perera lived in Thumba, Kerala and had arrived in Jordan on a visitor visa. He was shot dead on 10th February. The Indian Embassy in Jordan stated that they had been informed about the ” sad demise of an Indian National in an unfortunate incident. The Indian Embassy is in touch with the family of the deceased and is said to be working closely with authorities of Jordanian for the transportation of mortal remains of the deceased, the embassy posted this on their X account.

The family members of the deceased said that they were informed about his death by the Embassy in Jordan. The family of the deceased was aware of his Jordan trip but didn’t had any clue that he had tried to cross the border illegally into Israel. The wife of the deceased said,’ Last time I received a call, he only spoke to me for 2 minutes. He just asked me to pray for him”. According to the sources, Gabriel used to drive an autorickshaw before going to Jordan. Along with the deceased, his relative Edison had also tried to cross the border illegally, the relative was also shot, but he survived and he will be send back to India after receiving medical aid. His relative was a resident of Menamkulam.
The Indian embassy informed the family by sending a mail, which stated ” The security forces tried to stop them but they did not listen to the warning, the guards open fired on them. One bullet hit Thomas in his head and he passed away right at the spot. Later his body was sent to the local hospital. Officials of the Indian Embassy will be visiting the hospital to verify the identity of the deceased where the mortal remains are kept” . The family of the deceased has requested the Indian authorities to help them bring back home the remains of Gabriel.
