New Delhi : India has moved to reduce process time for business visas to Chinese executives. By reducing administrative vetting, India plans to issue business visas to Chinese entities within a month. We have removed the layer of administrative vetting and are processing the business visas within four weeks,” one of the two Indian officials told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
China’s foreign ministry said it had noticed “positive action” from India to “facilitate people-to-people exchanges in the common interest”. Tourist visas for Chinese citizens, which were halted during the military confrontation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh starting May 2020, resumed in July this year. PTI sources revealed on Friday that Indian embassies and consulates globally began accepting tourist visa applications from Chinese nationals earlier this week.
Recent months have witnessed both nations implementing various citizen-focused initiatives to strengthen bilateral relations. These initiatives include the restoration of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra, reestablishment of direct flights, celebrations of 75 years of diplomatic relations, and improved visa procedures. Direct air connectivity between the countries was restored in October. The government also plans to expedite the clearance of pending import approvals for goods from China and other countries. On November 4, The Economic Times reported that DPIIT has sought company-wise details of delayed foreign manufacturer certifications.
The government plans to start issuing and renewing licences for overseas suppliers, including Chinese firms, on a case-by-case basis. Approvals will cover parts of electronic products, shoes, steel, household items, raw materials, and other daily-use goods. Most of these clearances were halted after the 2020 border clashes.
