ICE Arrested White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s Family Member In Boston

New York : New York : A relative of White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who has staunchly defended Donald Trump’s sweeping immigration raids, has been detained by ICE agents and is facing deportation to Brazil. Bruna is the former partner of Michael Leavitt, the press secretary’s New Hampshire-based brother. The couple had a son before they split.

She has a previous arrest for battery… Under President Trump and Secretary (Kristi) Noem, all individuals unlawfully present in the US are subject to deportation, the DHS spokesperson said. The White House press secretary has, however, declined to comment on the matter. Michael Leavitt also did not explicitly speak on the matter. “My only concern has always been the safety, well-being, and privacy of my son,” he said in a statement to WBUR.

Bruna’s sister, Graziela Dos Santos Rodrigues, has launched a GoFundMe campaign seeking to raise $30,000 to help her fight the deportation proceedings. More than $14,000 has been raised so far. Todd Pomerleau, Bruna’s attorney, argued that she came to the US legally under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and was in the process of getting her green card. Under DACA, immigrants brought to the US as children enjoy protection from removal.

The Department of Homeland Security said that Bruna Ferreira was living in the United States on an expired tourist visa. A DHS spokesperson said that her tourist visa expired in 1999 and she had been illegally living in the United States. Tricia McLaughlin, a DHS spokesperson, commented on the matter, adding that Bruna Ferreira had previous arrest records for battery. However, WBUR reported that those arrest records could not be located. “Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, all individuals unlawfully present in the United States are subject to deportation,” McLaughlin said.
