“I Had Productive Discussions With Putin Regarding The War In Ukraine,” Says US President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump on Friday said he had productive discussions with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on ending the war in Ukraine. During the talks, he urged Putin to spare the lives of Ukrainian troops who were “completely surrounded”. He also expressed optimism that there is a “very good chance” the conflict could end soon.

He remarked that Ukrainian troops are in a vulnerable position, and if Russia continues to attack, it could result in a horrific massacre. The US President tweeted. But, at this very moment, thousands of Ukrainian troops are completely surrounded by the Russian military, and in a very bad and vulnerable position. Donald Trump’s phone conversation with Putin comes just days after the US proposed a 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy has accepted the deal, and Putin has also agreed to it in principle. The Kremlin asserted its agreement to the deal, while Putin emphasised that the terms are yet to be finalised, also adding that any truce should pave the way for lasting peace.

Putin said in Moscow The idea itself is correct, and we certainly support it. But there are issues that we need to discuss, and I think that we need to talk about it with our American colleagues and partners and, perhaps, have a call with President Trump and discuss it with him. Putin also sent Trump a message about the ceasefire proposal via the US special envoy on Friday, and the Kremlin added that it saw grounds for “cautious optimism” that a deal could be reached. Ukraine’s Zelenskyy also said that the country is ready for the 30-day ceasefire, which, according to him, could be used to draft a long-term peace plan. “I am very serious (about a ceasefire) and for me, it is important to end the war. We are ready for a ceasefire for 30 days as proposed by the American side,” Zelenskyy told reporters in Kyiv.
