Hindu Body Jabs Vance Over Wife’s Faith Remark, What She Once Said About Faith

New York : The Hindu American Foundation has slammed Vice President JD Vance’s remarks that he wished for his wife Usha Vance, who is a Hindu by faith, to convert to Christianity, despite the Republican leader later clarifying his statement. With respect @JDVance, if your wife encouraged you to re-engage with your faith, why not reciprocate that and engage with Hinduism too?

The group flagged Vance about the history of Christians denigrating Hindus and attempting to convert them through unethical means at times. Hinduism is inherently inclusive and pluralistic in this way. We do not seek to convert anyone. We embrace the idea that there are multiple ways of conceiving of the Divine. The foundation advised Vance to “acknowledge the positive impact of Hinduism on Hindus and the rights of Hindus to practice”.

The group flagged Vance about the history of Christians denigrating Hindus and attempting to convert them through unethical means at times. It also said there was an outpouring of anti-Hindu sentiment online, “often coming from explicitly Christian sources”. “Hinduism is inherently inclusive and pluralistic in this way. We do not seek to convert anyone. We embrace the idea that there are multiple ways of conceiving of the Divine.

The recent statement of Vance, who in past defended his wife when she was questioned for her ethnicity or faith, is being seen as how religion and politics are seen in Donald Trump’s America. The event he was speaking at was to honour Kirk, an electrifying presence on the US right, with a huge young following that helped Trump win the election last November. Kirk used his audiences on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube to build support for anti-immigration policies, outspoken Christianity and gun ownership, and to spread carefully edited clips of his interactions during debates at his many college events.
