The sudden cases of hair loss reported in Shegaon taluka of Buldhana district are not caused by ration wheat, nor do they appear to be linked to water quality, stated Minister of State for Public Health Meghna Bordikar Sakore. She was responding to a question raised by MLA Satyajeet Tambe during a short-term discussion in the Legislative Assembly. MLAs Kishor Darade and Vikram Kale also participated in the discussion.
Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, Minister Bordikar said that door-to-door surveys have been conducted in the affected villages. Samples of water, soil, blood, and wheat have been collected and sent for testing to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Once the ICMR report is available, the exact cause of hair loss will be determined, and appropriate action will be taken.
Additionally, health check-ups have been conducted for children and pregnant women in these villages. The state government ensures high-quality food distribution under various schemes such as ration grain distribution, Shiv Bhojan, and mid-day meal programs. Efforts are being made to strengthen food quality checks to maintain high standards.
Further, cleanliness guidelines have been issued for mid-day meal kitchens in schools and ashram schools. Strict action will be taken if any negligence is found in food distribution or hygiene standards, Minister Bordikar assured the Assembly.
