Ex-Mayor In UK Speaks In Urdu, Asks Rape-Accused Son To Hide Sex-Assault Video

London : A former mayor of a British borough spoke to her son in Urdu, instructing him to hide his cellphone that contained the video of him allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl, according to a report. Naheed Ejaz spoke in Urdu even as she tried to delay the entry of police officers into her home, the UK-based newspaper reported, citing court proceedings.

Ejaz, who is part of the Labor Party, served as the mayor of Bracknell Forest from May 2023 until May 2024. She resigned as a councillor in October 2024. She had previously stated that she was proud of becoming the borough’s “first Pakistani Muslim mayor. Diwan Khan, who had served as Ejaz’s consort when she was the mayor, was accused of giving a 15-year-old girl a drink of vodka laced with MDMA (a type of methamphetamine), before proceeding to rape her after she had passed out. The incident took place in June 2024.

She stated that Khan had used the video to blackmail her later, saying that Kahn messaged her later warning that he would show her mother the video if she said anything and that she “belonged” to him. She also stated that Khan had threatened to “slit her throat” if she told anyone about the attack, according to The Times report. The survivor later told the court that she and a friend of hers had met Khan after he had said he would take them on a drive.

According to The Times report, Khan allegedly told the two girls that he was “horny” and that he wanted them to touch him, but they both said no. He dropped the friend home then drove the 15-year-old girl to his house, the court was told. The survivor told the court she “blacked out” at that point of time and did not remember anything until she woke up in the back of Khan’s car, stripped off all her clothing.

Wylde stated that When the police came to arrest Khan, she delayed opening the door and helped him hide his mobile phone, adding, That mobile phone was likely to have material that would be evidence in Khan’s case. Khan gave a phone to the police, but it was not the one with the video, Wylde said. He added, We say they were speaking in Urdu, so the police wouldn’t know what they were talking about.

Speaking in court, Wylde told the jury that Ejaz acted the way she did despite having been informed about the seriousness of her son’s charges. The Times reported him as stating to the jury, “A mother’s love for her son will stretch some way, and in this case it stretched into criminality.” According to The Times report, Ejaz and Khan are on trial together at Winchester crown court. Ejaz has been charged with perverting the course of justice, a charge she has denied.
