Ebola Alert Across India After Two Suspected Cases Surface in Ahmedabad and Bengaluru

India: Health authorities across India have gone on alert after two suspected Ebola cases were reported in Ahmedabad and Bengaluru, leading to tighter screening and quarantine measures at airports nationwide.

According to officials, one of the suspected patients had recently travelled from Uganda and was admitted for observation after showing symptoms linked to viral infection. Another suspected case was reported in Ahmedabad, prompting local health teams to begin contact tracing and precautionary monitoring.

Even though no Ebola infection has been officially confirmed so far, the reports were enough for authorities to strengthen surveillance at international airports, especially for passengers arriving from African countries where Ebola outbreaks have been reported in recent months.

Airports in cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad have increased health checks, while state governments have been asked to stay prepared with isolation wards and rapid response teams. Medical samples from the suspected patients have been sent for detailed testing at specialised laboratories.

Officials from the Health Ministry have appealed to the public to remain calm, saying the situation is being handled as a preventive measure. They also stressed that India’s disease surveillance system is fully active and capable of responding quickly if required.

Ebola is a highly infectious viral disease that spreads through direct contact with infected bodily fluids. Symptoms usually include fever, weakness, vomiting and severe dehydration. Because of its high fatality rate, even suspected cases are treated with extreme caution worldwide.

The latest developments have once again highlighted the importance of strict airport screening and early detection in preventing global health emergencies from spreading across borders.
