New Delhi : Delhi blast co-conspirator, Jasir Bilal aka Danish, who was arrested from Srinagar yesterday, was the first choice for the suicide attack, but he refused. A political science student, Bilal has been radicalised for a suicide bombing since 2023 by Umar, arrested doctors revealed during interrogation.
Contrary to Bilal, Umar was seen advocating suicide bombing in a new video that surfaced today. In the video, he is heard talking about how the concept of suicide bombing is “very misunderstood”. Dr Umar, speaking in fluent English, says that what is labelled a “suicide bombing” is actually a “martyrdom operation”, offering a glimpse into the would-be suicide bomber’s radicalised mindset.
Bilal met the terror module at a mosque in Kulgam in October 2023. He was taken to a rented accommodation near Al-Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana, where Dr Umar, an assistant professor at the university, spent several months intensely brainwashing him to carry out a suicide attack. The plan fell apart in April 2025 when Bilal backed out. He cited two primary reasons for his refusal: his poor financial condition and, because of his belief that suicide was forbidden in Islam.
Following Bilal’s refusal, Umar is believed to have become the suicide bomber himself, driving an explosive-laden car that detonated near the Red Fort in Delhi on November 10, killing 14 people. Bilal’s detention and interrogation, which occurred after the arrest of other co-accused doctors (Dr. Adeel Rather and Dr. Muzaffar Ganaie), were instrumental in helping the Srinagar police unravel the entire interstate terror network linked to the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
Jasir Bilal’s father, Bilal Wani, a local dry fruit seller, was reportedly called in for questioning after his son’s detention. He set himself on fire out of “despair” and “anguish” after being repeatedly denied permission to meet his detained son and brother.
