JAMMU: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable, Munir Ahmed, was dismissed from service for allegedly hiding his marriage to a Pakistani woman, Minal Khan, and allowing her to remain in India after her visa expired, actions the CRPF deemed a threat to national security. Ahmed, however, insists he had secured approval from CRPF headquarters before the marriage and plans to challenge the dismissal in court.
Ahmed, a resident of Jammu’s Gharota area who joined the CRPF in 2017 told that he informed his superiors of his intent to marry Khan on December 31, 2022. He submitted required documents, including affidavits from his parents, a sarpanch, and a district development council member, through official channels. On April 30, 2024, he received permission from CRPF headquarters, and the couple married via video call on May 24, 2024. Ahmed said he completed all formalities, including an interview with his commanding officer and deputy, and recorded the marriage in his battalion’s data book.
The CRPF, however, maintains that Ahmed concealed the marriage and knowingly harbored Khan beyond her visa’s validity. A CRPF spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General M Dhinakaran, stated that Ahmed was sacked under Article 311(2)(b) of the Constitution, which permits dismissal without formal inquiry for grave misconduct. The force highlighted that such actions violate service conduct rules and pose security risks, especially in sensitive regions like Jammu and Kashmir.
Ahmed learned of his dismissal through media reports before receiving an official letter from the CRPF, an outcome he described as shocking to him and his family. He emphasized that he followed protocol and intends to seek justice through legal action in the coming days.
Khan, from Pakistan’s Punjab, faced deportation following India’s revocation of visas for Pakistani nationals after the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people. She was escorted to the Attari-Wagah border but received a 10-day reprieve from the Jammu and Kashmir High Court on April 29, 2025, allowing her to stay in India temporarily.
