A tragic head-on collision between two goods trains in Jharkhand’s Sahebganj district claimed the lives of two drivers and left four others injured, police reported. The accident occurred around 3 a.m. near Bhognadih, within the jurisdiction of the Barhait police station, on Tuesday morning.
Both trains involved in the crash were operated by NTPC, a leading power company, and were traveling on tracks owned by the corporation, primarily used to transport coal to its power facilities. Sub-Divisional Police Officer Kishore Tirkey of Sahebganj confirmed to PTI that the drivers of the two goods trains perished in the collision.
Eastern Railway spokesperson Kausik Mitra clarified that the incident was unrelated to Indian Railways, stating, “The goods trains and the track both belong to the NTPC. It has nothing to do with the Indian Railways.” The affected rail line links NTPC’s Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power Station in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district with the Farakka Power Plant in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.
