Centre Notifies 24% Hike In Salaries, Monthly Pay Raised To Rs 1.24 Lakh

The central government today notified a 24 percent hike in the salaries, daily allowances and pensions of MPs and former Parliamentarians, with effect from April 1, 2023. The notification, issued by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, also increased the daily allowances for sitting members and pension and additional pension for every year of service in excess of five years for former members.

Sitting MPs will now receive a monthly salary of Rs 1.24 lakh as against Rs 1 lakh they received earlier. The daily allowances have been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500, according to the notification. The pension for former MPs has been hiked from Rs 25,000 per month to Rs 31,000 per month.

The additional pension for every year of service in excess of five years has been increased from Rs 2,000 per month to Rs 2,500 per month. The hike in the salaries and pensions was notified in exercise of the powers granted under the Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament Act.

 Revised Benefits For MPs

  • Salary: The monthly salary for MPs has been increased from ₹1,00,000 to ₹1,24,000.
  • Daily Allowance: The daily allowance has been raised from ₹2,000 to ₹2,500.
  • The pension for former members of Parliament has been increased from ₹25,000 per month to ₹31,000 per month.
  • The additional pension for every year of service over five years has been increased from ₹2,000 per month to ₹2,500 per month.
