Centre Approves Transfer Of Justice Yashwant Varma To Allahabad High Court

The government today approved Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma’s transfer to his parent Allahabad High Court in the cash overhaul case. He has been directed to assume his position and take charge at the High Court in Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, the Centre also approved the Supreme Court Collegium recommendation of the repatriation of another Delhi High Court judge, Justice Chandra Dhari Singh, to the Allahabad High Court, which had been pending for months.

Supreme Court Collegium led by Chief Justice of India Sanjeev Khanna, and also comprising Justiced BR Gavai and Suryakant, recommended Justice Singh’s repatriation to his parent court. Both, Justice Chandra Dhari Singh and Justice Yashwant Sharma, were transferred to the Delhi High Court in October 2021. The Collegium recommended Justice Varma’s repatriation from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad High Court. The Delhi High Court registry also withdrew judicial work assigned to Justice Varma.

However, the decision of the Supreme Court Collegium was met with protests by the Allahahad Bar Association, which started an indefinite strike. The association said it would not tolerate judges facing corruption charges.
